Lancaster Pistol & Rifle Club Range Safety Rules
  • Shooting hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily, except Sundays. Sunday hours are 1:00 p.m. to 6:00.
  • No handling of firearms is to take place while any person is down range. Firearms should be unloaded and placed on the bench or in a   rack in a safe condition (actions open, empty chamber, no loaded magazines in the firearm, etc.)
  • Targets and Target Stands
    1. Reactive, explosive, and binary targets (e.g. Tannerite) are prohibited on all LPRC ranges. Paper targets are to be placed on the appropriate stands for the firing position being used.
    2. Rocks, cans, bottles, boxes, etc. are not suitable targets.
    3. Steel targets are permitted in the bunkers on the Rifle Range.
    4. Steel target frames for the Pistol Range 25 and 50-yard stands are to be left in the same condition as they were found.
    5. Any damage caused to wooden target stands used on the Pistol 50-foot range are to be repaired by the shooter who damaged them. Supplies for repair are located with the target stands.
    6. Wooden target stands for the Pistol 50-foot range are to be placed beyond the overhang and be within the width of the earthen portion of berm to ensure proper impact.
  • All impacts must be in the berm or designated impact area. Place targets low so that impacts are in the thickest portion of the berm.
  • All shooting is to be done from designated firing positions with the exception of sanctioned supervised club events.
    1. Rifle House – from the interior of the building only on the concrete pad and from behind the yellow safety line unless shooting prone then from behind the red safety line.
    2. Pistol House – from the interior of the building only using one of the provided windows. The concrete rifle bench at Position 1 may be used to sight in rifles (It is asked that the volume of fire from rifles at this position be limited to maintain longevity of the berm).
  • Cartridge limitations: Cartridges are limited on the following portions of the range:
    1. Pistol Side
      1. 25- and 50-yard Range
        • Straight walled pistol cartridges (including magnum) are limited to those allowable by the ODNR for deer hunting in Ohio or smaller.
      2. 50-foot Range
        • Straight walled pistol cartridges (including magnum) are limited to those allowable by the ODNR for deer hunting in Ohio or smaller.
        • Necked cartridges are prohibited on this portion of the range
        • No shotgun slugs
        • All impacts (hits AND misses) shall be into earthen portion of berm.
      3. Rifle Side
        1. 50-yard Rimfire Bunker
          • Rimfire cartridges only (non-magnum)
        2. 100-Yard Steel Plate Bunker
          • Any cartridge for which the plate is rated with the exception of .50 BMG, .338 Lapua Magnum, and similar cartridges which can cause excessive damage to the impact area
  • 50-yard Dirt Bunker
    • Any with the exception of .50 BMG, .338 Lapua Magnum, and similar cartridges which can cause excessive damage to the impact area
  1. 100-yard Paper Target Backer
    • Any with the exception of .50 BMG, .338 Lapua Magnum, and similar cartridges which can cause excessive damage to the impact area
  • Tracer and incendiary rounds are prohibited on all LPRC ranges.
  • Drawing from the holster is strictly prohibited.
  • Protective eyewear and hearing protection are required while shooting is occurring.
  • When shooting is taking place, the red light must be activated.
  • All members are obligated to clean up their area at the completion of range use, return target frames to the proper location, and secure the range should you be the last to leave.
